Windows only: Many of you have a favorite software update tool for keeping track of all your software at once. Free utility Software Informer takes it to the next level, providing other management features and a support community for all your software.
Software Informer runs in your system tray, tracking all the software installed on your computer that it has in its database (which is pretty extensive). When one of your programs has an update available, Software Informer will give you a notification and allow you to update the program from Software Informer's website, without ever having to go to the program's own site if you don't want to. This is especially helpful if a number of different programs have updates available, because you can go straight to your personal update page and update them all from there (though you can only update them one at a time, which can get tedious if you have a lot). You can also uninstall programs straight form Software Informer, as well as choose to ignore updates and link straight to each program's website should you need more information.
What's really cool about Software Informer is that it has a pretty large community at its website. Members can write reviews as well as offer support to other users for any individual program. If you want to ask a question about a specific program, you can do so straight from Software Informer and get answers from the community. What makes this feature even better is that you don't need to register an account to participate. While you have the option to do so, you automatically have a guest account created when you first start Software Informer so you can ask questions and write reviews right away. It's a bit more than just an update checker, it's a full-fledged software manager and support system, so you don't have to deal with each of your programs separately — extremely convenient if you have a lot of software, or have flaky programs that don't give you update notifications.
Software Informer is a free download, Windows only. Thanks, Sam!
