Over at The New York Times they highlight tips for students, courtesy of Heloise of the Ask Heloise fame. While her tips are geared towards life in the dorm they are just as easily adapted for the outside:

Don't lug a huge box or jug of detergent to the laundry room. It's too bulky and heavy to carry with your bag of dirty clothes. Instead, measure what you need into small plastic bags or yoghurt cups.

Measuring your laundry detergent ahead of time cuts down on the junk you have to haul to the laundromat and makes your already hefty laundry basket significantly lighter. Have a laundry tip of your own to share? Let's hear about it in the comments.
