Windows: Breevy, on its own, is a capable utility that can replace text snippets and launch applications from short typed phrases . It's even more useful to dual Windows and Mac users, as it can share those snippets with TextExpander on Macs.
Like our own Texter, Breevy can insert an entire address block when you type something like kpadd, and can auto-correct spelling mistakes. Breevy also launches applications, files, or folders from snippet shortcuts, whether you type them in a document or elsewhere. What Breevy offers over other Windows text expanders, though, is sharing of TextExpander snippets, through the magic of Dropbox synced folders. Set up both Breevy and TextExpander to use the same snippets library in a Dropbox folder, and those switching between Windows and Mac systems can keep the same auto-substitution library going at all times.
Breevy isn't free, costing $US29.95, but offers a 30-day free trial to see if your dual-synced text snippet system works for you. It's for Windows systems only, and we'd like to hear your experiences with it—or another dual Windows-Mac text snippet system—in the comments.
