If keep your trash and recycling bins hidden away in the garage you don't have much need for prettying them up, but if you keep the bins where they're visible this clever and inexpensive trick will attractively label them.
Over at the craft blog Dried Figs and Wooden Spools they had trash and recycling cans in need of labelling. The two canisters looked identical which led to mix ups when it came to dumping trash in one and recycling in the other. Their clever solution was to use cheap vinyl sign letters to create a negative-mask and then spray frosting spray over the mask to create the label you see above — if you don't have nice shiny chrome canisters you could always use paint of a contrasting colour instead of frosting spray.
The finished product looks much better than the flimsy and stained up index card tags they had stuck on the cans and is much more durable. Check out the full DIY guide at the link below.
