Many Lifehacker readers work in tech for a living, which hasn't necessarily been as rewarding the last couple of years. The good news? Salaries for geeks seem to be increasing, especially if you live in Western Australia.

Jennifer Foreshew at AustralianIT reports on a survey by Peoplebank Australia which suggests that salaries have risen slightly in contract IT roles in every state in Australia, although permanent positions haven't seen the same boost. The standout city is Perth, where salaries rose in more IT job categories than any other, driven by demand from the resources sector.
As ever, whether you can take advantage of these rises depends on your skill set -- entry-level jobs aren't likely to see the same sort of fillip. However, with a skills shortage widely predicted for the end of the year, working in IT doesn't look unappealing.
