If you travel, your Gmail messages can have the wrong time stamp, even after you change your computer's time, leading to out-of-order emails when sorted by date/time. Here's how to fix it:
Your Google account is associated with a timezone, and you have to manually update it when you travel or move if you want message times to be accurate with your local time. This Gmail help page details how to fix the issue:
- Visit https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?service=mail.
- Find the Personal Settings and click Edit next to the 'Email addresses' section.
- For the Time Zone field, choose the time zone that matches your location.
- Click Save.
- Sign out of Gmail and sign back in.
I believe this is also handy with one of the latest Gmail Labs items, "Sender Time Zone" [which tells you what the local time is for the person you're emailing] .
