Boxee Beta Makes Identifying Media Files Easier

Windows/Mac/Linux: An update out for the Boxee media centre has a big bonus for media fiends — the ability to see the progress of Boxee’s media scanning, and add names manually when necessary.

The Boxee Beta offers automatic media folder scanning, but what it’s scanned so far, and what it can’t identify, has been up to the user to figure out until now. With this update, you can head to the left sidebar in any media view (Movies, Music, TV Shows) and click to check out a status view of the scanning progress. For the files it can’t scrape data on from IMDB or TVdb, Boxee now offers an “Identify Video” button. It sets the name for your own media centre, and also sends the name back to Boxee, helping the software get smarter about naming conventions and media identification.

A few other new things—Twitter & Facebook queue integration, better feed handling—are explained in more detail at Boxee’s blog post. The Boxee update is free for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.
