Several of the great submissions we’ve had to the featured workspace group over the last few weeks have broken out the standard white walls/black desk motif and livened things up with some bold colour choices — see The Shipbuilder’s Office, Earth Tones and iMacs: A Cosy Home Office and The All-in-One Bedroom Office.
Lifehacker reader D351GNER has also embraced the warmth of red for his workspace, here is his caption for the above photo:
I would consider this the main view of my workstation. You can notice the black theme throughout the entire workspace. Due to my love for panda’s, I have a large panda stuffed animal with a mini panda in between the charging dock and organizer with three white squares. Again, the bamboo adds to the panda like essence while giving a touch of green to my station. Another key feature to this desk is that it is hand made, including the monitor stand. I personally cut out the desk, smoothed it, and made supports (same with monitor stand). Lastly, this workstation is all in my bedroom. This picture is taken from my bed. The framing right next to the large panda is a closet, but by arranging my room in such a way gives me and incredible amount of space and perfect are for my desk.

In the right corner of my workspace, I have a earthy feeling to it with the bamboo and my beta fish inside of the tank. Behind it, there is a red lava lamp bringing attention to the lovely display.
By having the walls and the shelf the same colour, it allows the shelf to be a bit less noticeable. On top of the shelf are iPod speakers along with CD’s. This area shows my goal of a black themed desk. The tix clock is in black as well as all black organisation items such as the black charging dock at a 45 degree angle. On the charging dock, there is my phone, index cards, hacky sacks, and a drawer holding batteries and other cables.
The front view of my workspace featuring a 24″ ASUS monitor that is on top of a stand with available space underneath. Both sides of my desk are evenly balanced with still an ample amount of desk space is available.
