Working on your PC is a good way to fill in time during flights, but you're largely at the mercy of your battery life. In-seat power is a fairly common option in business class for international flights, but now it's making an appearance on some domestic routes as well.
Qantas' newly-commissioned A330-200 plane — which will service the Sydney-Perth and Melbourne-Perth route — includes at-seat power for economy customers. Like the A380, there's also a USB port in each seat which can be used for charging devices. By February, two of the planes will be in operation, something I'll be bearing in mind the next time I book a flight to WA.
