As part of the online sweep it conducts each year with other consumer protection agencies, the ACCC has singled out dodgy sites promising tickets to major sporting events like the FIFA World Cup as an area of concern, along with dodgy health claims and promises of easy, recession-proof income. (Exaggerated claims were a major focus in last year's sweep.)
The ACCC also points to the econsumer.gov site as a place to lodge complaints about sites from outside Australia; within Australia, its own Scamwatch site is a good place to start. But not risking your money with dubious operatives remains the best protection.
