Windows: The promised Amazon MP3 Store is still a week or so away, but doubleTwist has upgraded its Windows media manager with as-you-type search, native libraries without WMP or iTunes, and syncing with the latest iPhones and iPod touch models.
The improvements in version 2.4 of doubleTwist for Windows help it catch up to its Mac sibling, adding some frankly obvious artist/album/genre sorting and music search, as well as freeing you from needing to set up Windows Media Player or iTunes libraries first, then hop over and start syncing your media to any device with doubleTwist. Newly refreshed iPhone and iPod touch support is obviously another big feature for doubleTwist’s goal of being a real iTunes alternative—which, when we took a look last week, wasn’t a role it has quite grown into yet, at least on Windows systems.
doubleTwist 2.4 is a free download for Windows systems, with a Mac version also available (that already includes Amazon MP3 Store support). If you’ve already got doubleTwist installed, hit the Help menu and choose Check for updates to upgrade in place.
