Speaking at the Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, Boorman was asked by an audience member what his essential piece of travel equipment was. His answer:
My sleeping bag. That’s the one thing that is utterly essential. When Ewan [McGregor]and first started Long Way Round, we had so much stuff it was ridiculous. You quickly realise you can buy stuff outside of Britain. But getting a good night’s sleep is the most important thing . . . baby wipes as well.
As a dedicated compact packer, that sounds like wise advice, though I think I’d still prefer a laptop and a hotel room.
