At the risk of starting a flame war in the comments, one can't help but wonder how long this safe harbour can last for Mac users. It certainly makes sense, from a hacker's perspective, to stick with the platform with the most CPUs, but certainly the potential ease with which some malware-writing hacker could compromise a fair share of Macs will make it more of a target sooner or later. Right?
It's actually happening in small steps, according to the article. Despite what the Get a Mac ads would have you believe, it has slowly become a bigger target, and in the past year Mac-targeting malware has jumped into the hundreds—more than none, but not nearly the 1.8 million pieces of malware targeting Windows.
