Macs are famously unaffected by most virus and malware epidemics, even if Apple has recommended running antivirus apps. Now Apple is taking malware matters into its own hands by automatically scanning installation packages for the bad stuff.
This spotting came first from the Intego blog, and while Apple hasn't confirmed the automated malware scans, it seems like more than a joking mock-up. No word yet on what virus database or back-end Apple is using to check installation images, or how the system is performing the scans.
Are you heartened to see Apple taking system security a bit more seriously, or would you rather users have the freedom to choose their own protections and protocols?
