Google released their new custom search options earlier this week, and reader Jason has already figured out a simple URL hack to keep the sidebar options open with every search.
The problem with the new options is that there is no preference to force the options panel to always stay open; you have to click the Show options link each time you want to view the expanded options. Jason figured out that if you simply add &tbo=1 to the end of the Google search URL, the new options will automatically show up whenever you perform a search.
Using this knowledge, you can edit your own custom keyword bookmarks to make sure that the options are expanded by default, or use the same technique for any Google search you are using. Thanks, Jason!
