Reader Mike writes in with a useful tip for online to-do list Remember the Milk—with some crafty smart lists you can hide the tasks that aren't due until later in the day.
Remember the Milk's smart lists create search folders that you can use to filter through your lists and show just what you want to be working on. The problem is that the normal due:today search gives you a list of everything for the day—Mike's trick filters it down to only the tasks due as of now:
Create a new search using your regular criteria, and add dueBefore:"now" to filter out tasks that are due later in the day. Make sure you capitalise it exactly the same, as it seems to be case sensitive.
This gives me a list of what I should be working on right now, and keeps future tasks from cluttering up my thoughts until they are actually due—since I use RTM to remind me of appointments it works great for me.
It's a useful tip that might come in handy while you get organised with Remember the Milk —be sure to check out the Remember the Milk Firefox extension for Gmail, and learn how to add tasks in a flash with RTM for Launchy.
