Brett wanted to get his monitor off his desk, but didn't want to waste money on an expensive mounting arm. With the addition of some lumber and LEDs, problem solved! The base of Brett's monitor was bulky, he wanted to move the monitor higher up, and paying $100+ for a custom mount for the monitor was out of the question.
I thought I might give a cheaper option a try and just build a desk-wide elevated shelf to get my monitor (and it's big, circular base) up off of my desk. I think this is a far better product than a boring old monitor mount ever would be. Besides, monitor mounts don't come with color-morphing LED lights.
Many of the components, including the desktop made from a counter top and the LED lights, are repurposed items from IKEA. The full room picture in his Flickr photostream, linked to below, has heavy notation if you'd like to know the exact names of the individual items.<
