What to do with an Ikea coffee table you no longer need? Recycle it into a standing desk!
Lifehacker reader Sean needed a compact desk for his MacBook and accompanying peripherals. He and his wife repurposed an Ikea coffee table by replacing the legs with 2x4s, bringing the surface up to a comfortable height for them to stand at. Instead of a standard office chair, they use a tall bar stool for sitting at the extra-tall desk. The desk is just the right size to hold his laptop, graphics tablet, and accessories, all of which can easily be stowed to the side for the times it has to serve as an old fashioned analogue writing surface.
Additional peripherals like his printer are stowed under the desk on nesting stands. Sean's workspace is an excellent example of how a functional and pleasing computer workstation can be blended into the small spaces of an urban apartment.
