fPrivacy Lets You Grant Or Revoke Specific Facebook App Permissions

Chrome: fPrivacy is a new Chrome add-on that gives you granular control over the permissions that Facebook apps request when you add them to or authorise them to access your account. For example, if you add a Facebook app and you’re not comfortable with the app’s ability to post to your wall or access your data at any time, you can deny those specific permissions while granting the other ones required for the app to function.

Much like previously mentioned FBSecure for Chrome and Firefox, fPrivacy allows you to toggle a Facebook app’s permissions when you add it to your account. The add-on is simple — after FPrivacy is installed, the pop-up dialog that appears at Facebook when you add an app that asks you to grant the app the permissions it wants also has check-boxes at the top of it for each permission type. Just select the ones you allow and uncheck the ones you don’t want the app to have, and click update.

Chad Selph, the developer behind the extension, notes that some apps may force you to re-auth if it checks and finds it is missing a permission it needs, but many apps ask for permissions they don’t need for you to use the app. If you love your privacy but just can’t give up on Facebook and Facebook apps, fPrivacy is worth a look. Are you already using FBSecure, or have you given up on Facebook apps completely? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
