IBM Rolls Out Bluehouse Social Office Suite
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 3:00 AM on October 8, 2008
IBM is offering the public a peek at Bluehouse, an online office portal aimed at making it easier for employees to share documents and desktops, host web conferences, and reach out to clients from one location. Any sized business can sign up to try out the service, though not everything works at the moment. One notably cool feature is the "Live Charts," which does exactly what it sounds like. There's tagging, importing from Outlook or Lotus Notes, and a lot more to fiddle with. Bluehouse is free to use (for the moment), requires a sign-up.

and oddly enough, what's completely missing is integrated voip and live speech details - looks like dimdim (free and opensource) may win here with enterprises, or dimdim with another toolset for online collaboration...

Just an FYI - There's been reports here that this doesn't play nice with Firefox 3

I don't get it -- they already have Lotus Quickr and Lotus Connections. Why are they developing another 'social networking' app to do a lot of the same stuff?

@UlvaShella: For those companies that cannot use Quickr/Connections due to licensing costs or lack of on-site developers, a trimmed down hosted solution such as this solves the problem for many.

@UlvaShella: It is a SaaS offering built using much of the same technology behind Quickr and Connections (Activities is exacly the same.) Also, originally intended for small to medium businesses (there's a fit for big companies too), and aimed at inter- and intra- company collaboration.
