Google Image Search Adds Photo-Only Option
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 10:00 PM on October 1, 2008
Google Image Search now has an option, available in the "Advanced" options, to return only actual photos on a search, rather than illustrations and logos. A few tests show it isn't perfect, but it does help winnow down results. The Google Operating System points out, however, that Microsoft's own Live image search has a fuller set of search filters. another good idea is to use Piclens plug-in for Firefox. it's called Cooliris now. works rather nicely and not that much of a memory hog.
I highly recommend it!

wow i was just about to correct you..and low and behold it has changed names... cooliris used to be a page preview plugin... but piclens/cooliris is a must have for looking at pics esp in flickr groups, FB forum pics... good stuff

@B1663R: I agree. That's exactly what I do, too.

@B1663R: What does CoolIris have to do with filtering the images? It still returns both illustrations and photos -- anything the original Google Search returns

Live Image Search has been better than Google Image Search for a good while now

Live image search makes google image search look like what google made the other search engines in the 90s look like.

Funny, I just learned the word winnow the other day from a reddit comment the other day. It looks like the equivalent (or so it seems) of adding &imgtype=face google to a search url that google rolled out a while back.

And probably 2 or 3 people knew because nobody uses it.
