Foxmarks Takes Your Bookmarks Mobile
Posted by Adam Pash at 2:00 AM on September 25, 2008
Bookmark-syncing application Foxmarks has updated their site to support easy access to your bookmarks from your iPhone, iPod touch, or other mobile device. Last week we highlighted O-Marks, an native iPhone application that syncs bookmarks to your iPhone. O-Marks requires you to access those bookmarks outside your browser, though, which isn't ideal, and it seems like a bit of an overkill for something as simple as bookmarks. With the Foxmarks update, just point your mobile browser to my.foxmarks.com, and it'll serve up the mobile interface of your bookmarks complete with search. It's fast and easy to use, but I'd throw in a vote for opening links in new windows so you can switch back to it more easily. A direct bookmark sync with mobile Safari would be ideal, but the mobile version of Foxmarks is a close second. Don't have an iPhone? The Foxmarks update includes a similar small screen interface for your mobile device, too.

Comments seem to be busted in Firefox. IE is fine. Thanks for making me open IE! Also I just saw this site without stylish for the first time in ages. It looks like something made by a schoolchild. Way to integrate ads guys! Please hire a pro designer. Please. Me?

only for the iPhone? bummer, I'd love to have this on my Dash. That being said, I've got a separate set of bookmarks for my mobile phone, usually mobile-optimized sites.

This is really nice! I didn't want an app to sync my firefox and mobile safari bookmarks because I keep a separate set of (mostly mobile optimized) bookmarks on my iphone, like Norcross. Foxmarks allows my iphone access to my firefox bookmarks without ruining my separate bookmark list. Perfect!

yeah, the web UI is great for the iphone.. too bad I have to log in seemingly every time I go there.. not exactly ideal either..

@Norcross: Actually, I didn't have another phone to test it on, but I just heard back from the Foxmarks people that a similar mobile page is available for non-iPhones, too.

I love foxmarks! Easily a top ten all-time productivity enhancer for me. No more importing and exporting twice a week two sync among my computers.
It's true that for me and (I would guess) most WM6 users, mobile & desktop bookmarks do not overlap much. I'll probably just create a second account so I can sync my mobile bookmarks for backup purposes.

I sent this tip in back in July, when the 3G first came out.
Sucks to be ignored.

@dmacd: The site seems to be back up now. I think it just got lifehacker-ed for a while.

@sterlingsaver: No need. Foxmarks supports using multiple profiles within your account for exactly this reason.

I've used Foxmarks' services for a long time now and only have positive things to say about them. /2Cents

Very very cool - I was hoping for a way to get my bookmarks on my iPod Touch without essentially having to back them up to an html file and post it on the Web somewhere. :D This is a huge help!

Seems they had their certificate expire at 12:16 today. I'm getting an 'invalid cert' notification each time from Firefox.

You can create a mobile profile with Foxmarks so only the bookmarks you need on your phone show up. And then they are automatically backed up and you don't have to create a new account.

Unfortunately, you have to provide your password every time you access my.foxmarks.com from your iphone.

is it just me.. or ... in your pic above, the text is nice and big like a normal iphone app.. but when i got to my foxmarks, i get tiny links.. that make it hard to select a single one with a finger.. doesnt look any more "iphone friendly" or any different anyway then it did weeks ago.. (i wonder if im missing a setting somewhere)

I cannot live without Foxmarks.I can connect to my work FM from home & to the one's stored on my fiance's machine an ocean away. I'm just waiting for them to get something done on Chrome now, and that would make things just peachy!! - Reena (www.phyre.wordpress.com)
