Yugma Integrates Screen Sharing With Skype
Posted by Adam Pash at 8:00 AM on September 19, 2008

Windows/Mac OS X: Free Skype plug-in Yugma Team Collaboration adds a screen sharing feature to Skype. The plug-in is an offshoot of previously mentioned Yugma, a standalone web conferencing and screen-sharing tool that you can use independently if you're not already a Skype user. The benefit to the Skype plug-in is that you have easy integration with your already populated Skype contact list, so starting up a meeting with Yugma through Skype (once it's set up) is a breeze. In addition to screen sharing, Yugma also offers remote control and annotation, among other features that could make it a worthwhile meeting tool. The biggest drawback is Skype's plug-in system, which is cumbersome, confusing, and makes getting started sharing with Yugma more of a pain than it should be.

I used this at work all the time. Been using it for about 4 months or so. Works great, but its got some issues on some computers. At my company we use it world wide in many countries to talk to our sales teams. Overall its a great free tool, but users have to install the software so its not good for communicating with customers. All in all good tool, but updating it is a pain because it requires you to sometimes install the full on program when the plugin doesn't want to load.

Hm. Does this allow me to autoconnect to my unattended home computer to remote control?

Personally, I think the best conferencing tool of this type going is Vyew. [vyew.com]

@mbarriault -- you want ECHOVNC for that.

Try Acrobat Connect. It's free (to a point).

Doesn't work with Firefox 3 on the Mac but does with Safari. Very promising as normally the Mac-PC divide is hard to cross with these products.

I've been looking for something like this to help out my grandparents with their Mac while I'm away at college.
PS. Not that they need help, you know, with a Mac and all. ;-)

Acrobat.com work well, and use only flash.
Anything require s/w installation from other side have the risk of incompatibility.

Hi everyone, this is Jonah from Yugma. Just wanted to let you know that Yugma works with Firefox 3. (I use it everyday on my Powerbook). If you experience any issues, be sure to enable Java in your Firefox browser.
FYI: Now you can join a session in Yugma (Mac, Win and Linux) without downloading the Yugma application. Just visit www.yugma.com, click Join a Session and select the View Only button. It's fast and doesn't require your attendees to download Yugma. Hope this helps!

Hello Lifehacker!
This is Tom from Yugma, and I'd like to address damianharvey's comment and let you all know a few things about what's coming up..
In regards to the FF3 issue damianharvey mentioned, we currently have no known issues with Firefox 3 on the Mac and many happy users of Firefox on the Mac. In OS X, the same Java version is used between browsers so if it works in Safari and not Firefox, Java is disabled in Firefox.
Nice write-up! Always appreciate hearing our users feedback, especially when it's positive. :)
We have just released version 4.0 in Mac and Windows and V4 for Linux is coming next week - with desktop sharing support!
In addition we have many website updates coming, updates to the in-browser viewers, and some significant website updates due early next week.
-Tom
