MZ Ultimate Tweaker Modifies and Optimises System Settings
Posted by Adam Pash at 4:00 AM on September 17, 2008

Windows only: Free application MZ Ultimate Tweaker is a system modification tool that covers the gamut of system tweaks, putting everything from performance to display tweaks just a few clicks away. The application is very similar to the TweakUI Windows XP PowerToy. But apart from all the minor modifications it can make to your system, it also comes loaded with several useful utilities worth checking out.

Those utilities include an advanced shutdown scheduler, startup manager, services manager, and registry backup tool.

All of the utilities are available as separate downloads from the MZ Ultimate Tweaker web site, so if you just want an à la carte utility, you can grab it as a standalone. Utlimate Tweaker also includes a few snake-oil utilities promising to speed up your computer, so stick with the useful ones. Regardless, MZ Ultimate Tweaker gives quick and easy access to tons of worthwhile Windows modifications, so if you're a junkie for a good tweak, give it a look.

Any recommendation for a similar program for Vista?

@LifesSweetDrug: For my Vista system I have been using Tweak VI Basic (basic version is free). Here is the direct link for the homepage:
Tweak VI
While I do not use all of the available tweaks, it still has many that I find to be very nice and useful. ^__^

How do the extra features match up to CCleaner? Would this eliminate the need for it?

I'd like to use this but have been burned in the past. Has anyone used this Tweaker? Could you post your 'Pros and Cons' about it? Thanks from the Central Valley of CA!

Must ... resist. I'm a sucker for these kinds of programs. I gotta try them out. Of course, most of them are uninstalled and forgotten about in a matter of hours.

MZ Vista Force and Tweak VI are the only two programs I found which really helped and didn't confuse me with esoteric settings only decipherable by the gurus of technology. TuneUp Utilities is good--Vista version. And TCP Optimizer works with Vista--very nice for "pushing" the limits for Internet connections. RegSeeker works with Vista--hot tool for clearing out bad reg files. Glary Utilities works fine, but be sure to uncheck clean "Startup" entries. Wise Disk Cleaner and RegCleaner--good.

Nice, but I like this one:

@JacquelineToad: This doesn't compare to CCleaner. It compares more closely with TweakUI rather than CCleaner.
BTW...nothing really compares to CCleaner. :-)

While not exactly an 'optimizer' my tweaker of choice is Winbubbles. It's mostly the simple stuff that need funky registry trickery that many users aren't fully willing to partake in as well as various UI stuff but some of the options are quite compelling (like the check box for not deleting temporary files on shutdown to speed up shutdown, seeing as they can be cleaned out later or are overwritten).

How do this stands against RegToy (previously mentioned here)?. I have used it for a long time, and allows a lot of customization without getting "that" techical.

Just tried it, and didn't found anything that would worth the change from RegToy. For some reason, everytime i started a tool (i.e. Shutdown manager), two instances of them started. RegToy has lots more features, allowing you to customize the start menu, you context menu, and a lot of other system tweaks.
What's new to me, is that MZ Vista Force includes a tool to optimize Firefox, though it don't tell you what exactly is changin, so I didn't give it a try (more comfortable with the about:config settings).
The only app i liked was the ShutDown Manager, since I have great apps for all other purposes (startup manager, reg cleaner, etc).

I doubt whether such an application is very useful.
My opinion: Windows is a Microsoft product. As such, Microsoft probably knows best how and where to tweak/clean it.
TweakUI is a microsoft product. Use that if you really want to.
With respect to cleaners; windows offers the same functionality (defrag, clean internet history/temporary files etc.) as most cleaners, you just have to know where to find them. (which is not that hard). Even a registry cleanup can be done (for free) via Windows Live OneCare.
I just find it hard to trust 3rd party cleaners since you never know exactly what they are cleaning/tweaking. There are a lot of hoax tweaks to find on the internet and a 3rd party application just might use such tweaks and consequently may even damage your windows performance.

My thoughts exactly, but one thing I've also found out, I have more luck
tweaking my system from within then using a whole bunch of tweaks , like
tweak vista or MZ ultimate tweaker. In the long run most of these programs
or tweaks actually bring bad consequences....
