Tasque Manages To-Dos with Remember the Milk Integration
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 1:00 AM on September 16, 2008
Linux only: Free to-do manager Tasque is a clean, unobtrusive interface for managing your to-do items on your Linux desktop. The program can run with its own local database of tasks, or can integrate with an Evolution-based workflow. Tasque gets really helpful, however, when hooked up to the web-based task manager Remember the Milk. Importing, completing, and adding tasks with a smart text box all work perfectly with RTM. You can add notes to a task with a right-click, but tagging looks like it has to be handled from RTM's web interface. If you're a fan of simple to-do lists you can access from your desktop or the web, Tasque is a great solution. Tasque is a free download for Linux systems only; hit the via link below for help installing its repositories in Ubuntu.

Is there a Window's Tasque equiv? Specifically something that syncs with RTM?

Does this require a Remember the Milk "Pro" account?

@Avian00: Nope, you can use this with free Remember The Milk account. I've been using it for a couple weeks now, and have found it VERY useful.

Sigh, looks good but it uses Mono. I've had to install a ridiculous number of packages to get this working.

very nice so far... it may be a bit out of the league of a new-ish ubuntu user, as the package is a tar.gz file that needs to be configured and installed... a few graphical glitches, but that may be my NX connection... also, I had to re-set firefox as my default for URLs: Ubuntu | System | Preferences | Preferred Applications change to Custom and put in the following for Command: /usr/bin/firefox "%s" good luck!

Wow. At first, i thought the title was talking about something dealing with MS-Dos, THEN second thought was Denial Of Service. Finally, i realized that To-Dos was the things you have to do. ...i need help...

@AntonioBriseus: There is a package for Tasque in the Ubuntu Intrepid repositories. For those that would like to get it now, there's also a separate repository that can be added for Ubuntu Hardy. Check the article for detailed install instructions:

@Avian00: No, it doesn't. Free accounts seem to be syncing fine and almost instantly with Tasque.
(Sorry about the double-comment, I didn't notice there was an unanswered question right at the top!)

I was about to email Lifehacker about this app after seeing it tragically overlooked in the Linux productivity post - looks like someone beat me to the punch! I love Tasque. Its simple interface is reminiscent of Todopaper/Taskpaper for Windows/Mac, which just works for me, and there's a Gnome-Do plugin for it which is absolutely indispensible.
For anyone who doesn't want to mess with compiling from source, there's a .deb package of the latest version here : [darkstar.ist.utl.pt] It works perfectly (I used it). Enjoy!

I just want to second delphine's plug for the Gnome-Do Tasque plugin. Highlight some text in a document or on a web page, Super+space, and start typing "new task" and you can easily add something to your to-do list. Make sure you grab the latest Gnome-Do and Tasque from the launchpad PPAs if you want good integration. I don't think that the packages in the Hardy repos will let you do this (but in Intrepid they should)

Great news.
Hopefully it will work soon with project management apps like
[www.toodledo.com] or
[www.nozbe.com] or

Is there something like this (Remember the Milk integration) for windows users? I am currently using google gears with RTM but it would be awesome to have a desktop client like outlook sync/integrate with RTM.

I am new to using RTM, but it seems very handy. I like the look of this application, but I'm a windows user. Is there a similar windows based alternative, for desktop management of RTM tasks?

@Avian00: nope, you just have to allow it to access the api. It will tell you how to do it.
