WebChunks Puts Dynamic Information from Any Web Site in Your Toolbar
Posted by Adam Pash at 8:00 AM on September 9, 2008

Firefox only (Windows/Mac/Linux): Firefox extension WebChunks creates bookmarks to monitor any section of a web site. Based on Internet Explorer 8's WebSlices feature, the latest release of WebChunks allows you to subscribe to any area of a web page—whether the developer set it up for use with WebSlices or not. The gist, then, is that you can bookmark a dynamic section of a web page and quickly bring it up any time by clicking the WebChunks toolbar—similar to Dashboard's Web Clips tool. The newer version (0.3) of this runner-up extension in the best Firefox 3 extensions contest isn't available yet on Mozilla's servers, but the latest is available from the site below. If you like it, let's hear how you're using it in the comments.

Pretty neat, too bad you can't put the chunk buttons in with the bookmarks toolbar. Kind of a waste of space if you're only using it with one or two sites.

Which weather site is that chunk from? I like the built in radar.

Harlan, Iowa? I lived there when I was 2 years old, it's a tiny town... weird to see it on the screenshot.

I'm using this to check my list of webcomics.
I'm glad it's being actively developed (as of now, check the homepage for a more recent version); with a little more UI polish, this is one is big time.

Doesn't seem to work with flash elements, makes it quite less useful.

I've been following this one for a while because I think that it could be big if enough sites pick up on it. But it really needs to be integrated into Places so Webchunks can be mixed in with ordinary bookmarks the way (the related) livemarks are; a separate toolbar is just too annoying when I've put so much effort into paring the UI down to one line.

I added the TinyURL box. This will be handy for web apps like that!
