Mazzick Puts Mouse Gestures on Your Thumb Drive
Posted by Adam Pash at 8:00 AM on September 6, 2008
Windows only: Free application Mazzick is a simple mouse gesture utility that you can carry on your USB thumb drive. Using Mazzick is simple: just invoke it using one of the default shortcuts (like holding Shift, for example), then draw the gesture you want. Creating your own custom gestures—like my 'l' for Lifehacker gesture in the screenshot—is a breeze. If you're a fan of saving time and keystrokes with global mouse gesture tools like prevously mentioned StrokeIt but feel lost at a computer without your favourite gestures, the portable Mazzick could be just the ticket for you.

I want to believe that this will replace my beloved StrokeIt. Is anyone else slightly unnerved by the page's title being "MaZZicK - a wand for ur Windows?." The program's interface is on the minimal side, but that really isn't an issue. One thing I found is that you cannot simply use the right mouse button to draw, you must either use shift, shift and the middle button, shift or the middle button or finally only the middle button.

I'll stick to strokeit and I have found a portable version for that but I hardly need it to be portable

@cJw:
I retract my comment; not allowing the use of the Right Mouse Button (middle mouse button and/or shift key only) negates my using this app. I'm trained, a la FF gesture addons, to use the Right Mouse Button for gestures.
I ran the gambit of mouse gestures for windows and found none satisfactory. I'm going to go cry in the corner, now, after having my hopes dashed. >.<

I have found that gMote ([www.handform.net]) is a good replacement for StrokeIt. It will allow you to use the right mouse button to draw (ala Firefox) and it is also possible to set it up for specific applications to include/exclude. And lastly you can have a different set of gestures for each app if you so choose.

Absolutely TINY footprint: 912K! Great responsiveness. I wouldn't want it to use the right mouse button... because that would interfere with
FF gestures... and I still Mazzick gestures in FF. This programmer must be a genius at small size programs. The gestures are quite exquisite as well!

Where is the problem with using strokeit? I'm doing it for years now and have no problems with this.

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't see this as helping to increase productivity at all. If anything I would see either accidental activations or the motions would be forgotten.

I second for gMote. Been using it for a year now. Its developer is very responsive and tries to solve problems (if any) quickly. It's strange lifehacker has not covered gMote yet.
@Adam: you really should give gMote a go!

cJw - what seems to be the problem? you can use any mouse button in strokeit (or gmote - [www.handform.net] - highly recommended). both programs also offer the option to be disabled in certain applications. I currently use mouse gestures redox in firefox, strokeit with the right button, and gmote with the middle button. i'd highly recommend implementing gestures into your windows usage for added efficiency.
