iRinger Turns Music and Video Files into iPhone Ringtones
Posted by Gina Trapani at 1:30 AM on September 6, 2008
Windows only: Desktop app iRinger converts any video or music file into an iPhone ringtone, including YouTube videos. You already saw how to make a ringtone using only iTunes, but iRinger brings audio effects (like fade in and out, flanger, and delay) and video support to its single, simple interface. You can download any YouTube clip, for example, and import it into iRinger to create a tone. iRinger does nag you with a pop-up sponsor window that you can't close unless you donate to the project; otherwise it's a handy all-in-one iPhone ringtone utility. iRinger is a free download for Windows only. Thanks, nyifan!

As an online solution, I recommend Audiko ([audiko.net]) for non-Windows users. This website is pretty cool for downloading *.m4r ringtones or creating your own by uploading mp3 files. Don't know if it has already been featured on LH

I found it for my wife to use with her iPhone. She likes it. It's dead simple to use.

Not that you can hear it.

I don't understand the benefit of using this over Audacity. I pick a song, crank out a custom ringtone and have it on my iPhone in minutes. It seems it's already a dead simple process that doesn't require dumbed down software to perfect.

I've been using this and have been really happy with it. I've denied it access to the internet from my firewall, so I just put up with an empty sponsor window.

@ColinHero I see your point but I would strongly prefer having a programme like this available for the mac. I use itunes and finder to create ringtones. Call me lazy if u want but sometimes I just can't be bothered switching between apps, renaming, changing format manually, etc.

@Ted Avery. Back when they posted the general guide to making a ringtone involving itunes, I put a link to the program in the comments. That may have been where you saw it.

Here's an idea for a Lifehacker contest: Take a selection of applications screenshots, blur out native interface elements (if there actually are any), and make readers pick out which ones are for Windows, Mac or Linux.
I'll spoil it for you right now: The ugly ones are on Windows.
All joking aside, it might actually be fun.
