PleaseDressMe Finds Specialty T-Shirts Online
Posted by Gina Trapani at 12:30 AM on September 5, 2008
If you're looking for the latest cool alternative tee, instead of checking Threadless, Busted Tees, and other specialty vendors, search them all at once at new T-shirt search engine PleaseDressMe. Simply search for a shirt by keywords (like fail whale or Obama), or browse by colour, price, or tag. Current tags range from things like "typography" to "american apparel," depending on what you're looking for. PleaseDressMe's selection is decent for now, but hopefully it will expand over time. What are your favourite online T-shirt vendors? Shout 'em out in the comments and help out PleaseDressMe with some ideas for expansion.

I keep a T-Shirts subfolder in my Shopping bookmarks for just such an occasion. Here's the dump of all my ironic/fan boy sites.

shirt.woot is a favorite of mine. I probably get at least a shirt a week. They're pretty cheap at $10 a piece. They only sell a shirt a day, but every couple days they will have one I love.

@ewing.ryan: I love shirt woot. I only got 2 shirts, but whenever I go out, everyone comments on my "Lime in the Coconut" t-shirt. (It has an image of a coconut and a lime, with a lime going from the lime into the coconut.")

hm, jinx...
been a while since i got anything from there
always love looking at thinkgeek, but $18/shirt is just too much
been buying most shirts from shirt.woot lately (very hit-or-miss, i'll usually find something i like less than once a week, usually end up buying something once every month or 2)

I've seen some great stuff on shirt.woot, too, but haven't bought any to date.

Another vote for shirt.woot. I'm actually wearing one of their shirts right now. It is very hit-or-miss though, as Gstein mentioned. They only sell one new shirt a day, but you can get older, better selling, ones via the "Day of Reckoning" post on their blog. I usually wait until a shirt is about to be "reckoned" before buying. It's a little more expensive that way ($5), but otherwise I'd be buying a new shirt every week.

@Triborough: Of course an I<3NJ would have to be a custom design. Who would think of that?
(Just kidding, I have nothing against Jersey)

Hey… thanks for the mention above. Woot is good stuff too… they are a great resource for us posting sale items as well. We were just on there about two weeks ago and we moved a good bunch of old designs!

The best t-shirt search engine, bar none, is Teenormous ([teenormous.com]) Though it's a new player in the search engine game, the geniuses behind teenormous seem to have gotten it right as it's the only tshirt search engine that actually yields the desired results.
Teenormous might not have a big name backer, but it's worth a bookmark. If you're looking for a particular tee, you simply submit the search term and Teenormous will bring you results from tshirt peddlers from all over the web.

I love to stop by [www.shirtsonsale.info] because they bring together all the daily sales at Shirt.Woot, Tee Fury, Uneetee and a whole bunch of other great sales and coupons. They're commentary could be a touch better, but generally they're pretty funny/interesting.

a little known site with licensed Idiocracy t-shirts and tons of one-liners, www.tshirtoutlet.com
and [www.dicktees.com] funny also.

A source of decent geek tees comes from [www.StartupSchwag.com] (successor to ValleySchwag.com). It's subscription-based you get random goodies. In other words, they choose so you don't have to! ;P

Check out rubbercityclothing.com, the T's are cool even if the owner isn't. All of the t-shirts are about Akron Ohio (the rubber city).

Teenormous - [teenormous.com] has a way better index, and search results than any of the other ones I've seen listed. That a "celeb-related" search tool is being lauded by popular sites is actually more sad than anything.

I knew there were some more goodies hiding in my bookmarks... [OwlMovement.com] and [GoApeShirts.com] have some really great stuff. You can create your own custom shirt at [www.TshirtMonster.ca] . Lastly, I highly recommend checking out the cool [Joytshirt.com] project. Buy a shirt with a stranger on it then submit your own picture and continue the trend...

This seems like a specialized site. I cant believe that one of the largest tshirt databases (CafePress.com) isnt included. I did a couple of searches which do give results in CafePress but this site found nothing. What good is that? Also apparently a number of other large sites (PrintFection, Zazzle) appear to be missing. At least TshirtHell seems to be in it.
Sorry but it looks like just Googling works better than this site.

Never seen any site in the UK that sells cool t shirts - any hints anyone?
An aside: I do find some good stuff on the racks at TK Maxx (I got a cool, wait for it, Star Wars t-shirt there a few weeks ago - I know, Star Wars and cool don't normally go together - but it had a bikini-clad princess on the front ... who could resist)

It's a good start but any site that doesn't include www.torsopants.com isn't really searching the internet for the best shirts.

Two of my favorite sites for good t-shirt designs are Create Build Destroy and Obey Clothing. Neither one shows up on PleaseDressMe.

Good idea, but it only found 8 Obama shirts. Google Products found something like 150,000. Not that they are all unique.
That said, "Can you smell what Barack is cooking" is great.
