Google Calendar Adds CalDAV Support, Enabling iCal Sync
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 1:12 AM on July 29, 2008
Google Calendar has added support for the CalDAV standard, opening up a realm of syncing possibilities for business users and webapps. Right now it's somewhat limited, with a few known issues, but the big news is that it's now possible to sync your iCal and Google Calendars without any third-party software. As the Google Operating System notes, however, it's not an entirely simple process to hook the two up, so a free option like recently-made-free CalGoo might still be the best option for anyone who doesn't enjoy fiddling. Hit the link below for details on GCal's CalDAV options.

I have been using www.nuevasync to sync my calendar. It interacts with google's apis and sets up some sort of exchange server.

This is good news, but until all the bugs are worked out, I'll keep using Plaxo to keep all my calendars in sync.

Yeah, I second the question: Does this work with Windows Calendar? (Not everyone who has Vista has Outlook, you know, and some of us (e.g. me) don't want to pay for Outlook)

@jkratz:
Yea I know it syncs with outlook but I don't wanna use Outlook. I was talking about the calendar app that comes with vista "Windows Calendar" it's a nice little app.

Anyone tried this with Lighting (Thunderbird Calendar add-in)? I keep getting this error:
The resource at "https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/$$$$$$$@gmail.com/user" is either not a DAV collection or not available

@LifesSweetDrug: You're kidding right? Not sure what search terms you were using that it tooks ages and you didn't find anything but typing in 'outlook google calendar sync' brings up both the google sync tool and SyncMyCal which works wonderfully.

Hmmm now to try and find notes on how to uninstall the Leopard-inoperable (unless you do lots of h4x) gcaldaemon off my system. Can't wait for those issues that @drsphincter linked.

I'm probably going to stick with Spanning Sync. It works great, and most importantly, they have amazing customer support. If something goes wrong, I trust them to help me figure it out.

Cool!
Same gripe as others ... all calendars in separate server / category.

I use Spanning Sync, which syncs iCal and gCal. Works great. On my iPhone, I can make changes there, which pushes it to MobileMe, syncs with my laptop and home machine, which then use Spanning sync to sync it to gCal. Scenic, but works and is in the background for me.

Anybody know if this plays nice with MobileMe? Sigh, if MobileMe would add calendar subscriptions, I'd be quite happy. Push gCal would be nice, but until that comes around (and maybe push gmail), I'll keep the push features off on my iPhone to save some battery life.

@LifesSweetDrug: Google Calendar Sync does 2 way with Outlook, if you're looking something like that.
What I really want is push gmail and google calendar, send it right to my iphone

Ok.. Googles taken a step, now it's your turn Apple. Also, it's 2008 - how is this not completely functional and native yet? Ugh. C'mon gcaldaemon!

I was trying ages googling but no one had an answer how to do it.

After adding a whole bunch of my calendars, I've only found one real annoyance, related to the fact that each calendar shows up as a separate server. If I make an event on the wrong calendar, there's no easy way to switch it to a different one; the calendar option in the event editing window only shows the current server's calendars (which is just one). I can, however, copy and paste the event to the correct calendar and everything works. Just a little annoyance...

Awesome! This is better, so far, than Calgoo since I don't have to have it open all the time!
The only problem I've found so far is that each calendar I have has its own category with only one category. It'd be a lot nicer if we could have each calendar accessible from just one account, or somehow consolidate all these separate accounts into one category in iCal.
Regardless, it seems to be working great so far.

Huh? Go to "Preferences" and then where? iCal for Mac OS X 10.4 doesn't even have this option... (sighs silently)... Back to Spanning Sync.

Great, but events are read-only on my mobile phone (Nokia E50). I almost started planning bying an iPhone, but according to @ElliottDaedalion it's not any different.

Not sure if first post went through...
I've tried Calgoo and Outlook Connector and others...
Anyone have ideas on what to use for this setup:
Need to Sync 2 ways between 3 calendars
1) Outlook/Exchange calendar (Server A)
2) Outlook/Exchange calendar (Server B)
1) Outlook/Exchange calendar (shared by someone else to me)(Server B)
Anyone already doing this or know a product that can?

I've tried Calgoo, Outlook Connector and several other options with no success. Anyone have a suggestion for the following:
Need to sync calanders (both directions)
Outlook/Exchange account(calander and email) on Exchange server A
Outlook/Exchange account(calander email) on Exchange server B
Outlook/Exchange Shared(to me by someone else) calander(calander only) on Exchange server B
No-cost or low-cost? Anyone?
