VeeDee-Eyes Offers Pre-Configured Linux Distros for VirtualBox
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 7:00 AM on July 20, 2008
If you've been checking out the newest VirtualBox beta for Mac OS X, or you're intrigued by Linux but not ready to deal with virtualizing it, the Sun xVM VirtualBox VDI Index—or, as it's skeevily nicknamed, veeDee-Eyes—has a host of pre-compiled, pre-configured images for you. No need to set up space, "boot" from a live CD and mess around with hardware config, as copies of Fedora, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE and others are ready to run. Not all of them are free, with a few of the multi-GB distros asking for a buck or two to cover server costs, but a good number of interesting variants and betas are there for the taking. VirtualBox runs on Windows, Mac, or Linux, and is a free download.

Neat, I'll have to try them.

Very cool. The latest version of Hardy Intrepid (alpha 2 as a write this) has some problems with VirtualBox. I've gotten it to boot using the "VT-x/AMD-V" option, although I still have trouble with the guest additions. I'm stuck in low-resolution, making it a bit of a pain to test.

Looks like an excellent way to try Linux before making a switch. But to be honest, I'm so sick of Windows right now, I think the difficulty of Linux may be a lesser headache.

This site totally sucks! You can't find downloadlinks for VDIs - or am i blind? They host nothing - only links to torrents. Thats bad.

@caschy: Yes you are blind, the torrents are the VDIs! And how are torrents bad? They're only illegal if you use them to download illegal content.

@caschy: yh i prefer direct downloads but torrents are designed so you can continuously download with breaks whereas direct downloading could break down and you would have to send the whole file again

Who are these guys providing this? How can we be sure that there are no trojans/backdoors planted in the VDIs?

i already have a bunch of linux distros downloaded, but i dont want to restart my computer to mess with them all, this helps.
