Hitchsters Helps You Catch a Cheap Airport Ride in NYC
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 1:00 AM on July 20, 2008
Find yourself in New York City without an airport ride, but don't want to pony up the disheartening full fare for a cab ride? Hitchsters.com hooks you up with other taxi riders taking the same flight to save money and ensure you arrive on time. The benefit over an airline-sponsored shuttle van is that your fellow passengers are trying to make the same flight, so you won't have to hop on two hours early or risk missing your take-off. The service is currently live for Manhattan and Brooklyn pick-ups, but plans to expand. Thanks, Jason!

Another good website for rideshare is GishiGo [www.gishigo.com] It also helps people exchange identity before they meet and that filters out a lot of the annoying people who lie, the big fat hassle with Craigslist freaks. Those dishonest people, or fake people, are big problem with social websites like myspace, craigslist, facebook where they set up false identity and then befriend other people who have false identity in atttempt to create false trust. And there are perverts and cops who use just to hassle people with no real intention of doing rideshare. I hate using internet for rideshare without some sort of identity testing. So I use GishiGo and those other high traffic websites.
This hitchster website appears to be gaining efficiency with Taxi as driver. Seems safer then private driver? Think there is another website like it created for sharing taxi ride. Think that other one is somehow affiliated with Columbia University?

This seems kind of pointless and overcomplicates the situation. You can get a bus (the M60, as well as others, I believe) to LGA for $2 (including subway ride to the bus stop since it counts as a transfer). You can also take the subway and airtrain to JFK for a total of $7 (they rip you off on the air train for $5 considering you get 90% of the way there on the subway). There might be some method for getting to Newark on cheap public transport as well, I have no experience there.
So maybe it is useful if you are trying to go to Newark or White Plains airport (I'm not sure a cab would even take you to White Plains). There are also many independent bus companies that run shuttles from right outside Grand Central. I figure if you are cheap enough to go through all the trouble of using this hitchers site, that any of these alternatives would likely be even better for you considering they are even cheaper and likely more reliable. They are likely even more convenient as well, as you don't have to coordinate taxis with anyone, you just go when you go, the buses and subways leave every few minutes, so scheduling is not really an issue in this case.
see www.mta.info for more info! (no i don't work for them, i just actually enjoy public transportation)

If you're going to JFK, just take the Airtrain [www.panynj.gov] it's $5 per ride usually (if you're vacationing in NYC, you probably wont need to buy an unlimited ride metrocard) and goes to/from Jamaica and Howard Beach, which you can get to from Penn Station easily.
