Speckly Searches Multiple BitTorrent Trackers
Posted by Adam Pash at 4:00 AM on July 17, 2008
Web site Speckly is a barebones BitTorrent search engine that scours multiple popular torrent trackers and returns the results in a simple interface. In fact, you'll notice the site's design is a direct knock off of Google, but it has a few subtle tweaks for BitTorrent. Like previously mentioned torrent aggregator PizzaTorrent, Speckly also allows you to sort results by file type, and according to weblog Mashable, the ad-free site will remain ad-free—an accomplishment for the often pop-up-ridden world of BitTorrent trackers. If you need more robust filtering, we'd recommend PizzaTorrent, but if simplicity is what you're looking for, Speckly looks like a winner.

Woops, cut off:
Thanks, I love these compilers, youtorrent comes in handy as well, they're especially handy for vague torrents.

another good site that searches all the good torrent sites is [www.torrentz.com] . Ive used it forever and its great. Each torrent you lookup has its on page where people can comment on the torrent itself, normally telling you the quality of the torrent.

Don't know if you guys tried this engine out yet, but it really stinks. I just went and tried it out and searched "Dark Knight" and it came out with 0 results. Don't know what sites it scrubs, but they must not be from Earth.

I guess that you were aiming for a legal torrent, so just pointing out that 'Steal this Movie' is a copyrighted biographical.
'Steal this Film' is the copyright free documentary.

@bann3d:
I tried the other sites in the comments above and got some results from my search. I think the issue is with the site, not the search keyword.

@Adam Pash:
lol, it's like running a Google search for the word "the", and coming up with 0 results. I'd def. look out my window haha

Ditto. A search for Ubuntu yields 0 results. Did you guys actually tried this site, or are you recycling someone else's blog post?

@Klopfer123: Haha... eh, whatever.
@bann3d: I think it must not be holding up to the traffic, because I'm not getting any results from them for any searches right now.

And I searched "Fedora 9", zero results too...
I think that something is going wrong to "Speckly"...

@flatlinebb:
I normally use [www.pizzatorrent.com] and I just tried it, and it seems to be working normally. I think I originally got that site addy from Lifehacker as well.

@Adam Pash: Yeah I wasn't aiming to be a dick, just some sites are anal about what you can post about, and I wasn't sure whether all torrents were up for discussion. Sorry ^_^

@Klopfer123: Oh no problem. I didn't you were. :)
@flatlinebb: Yes, like I said, it must be the site. The search I made when I took the screenshot wasn't working anymore, either. Just tried again, though, appears to be back to normal for me at least.

I don't get get it, when I search it says loading and it shows a bunch of results, but when it finishes loading it shows 0.

I just did a quick "test" search using [Speckly.com] along with the BitTorrent search sites that were suggested by L.Rawlins and nogills. Speckly and [NowTorrents.com] gave good returns but [Torrentz.com] did not. Thought I'd pass the results along.

@Nxqd3051990: I used to like [YouTorrent.com] too but someone clamped down on them so their ability to find selection has noticeably dropped off. I agree with bann3d that great results can be had with [PizzaTorrent.com.] I sometimes supplement that with [ThePirateBay.org] when I'm having a tough time with a search.

Pretty old news, there are too many of these sites out there, but the best one is BTJunkie at [btjunkie.org]

www.torrentspy was a good one, but they've closed that one down. Now I just use www.btmon.com

First, I would like to thank you, LH readers, for trying out Speckly. A number of you have commented that on your visit, zero results were returned. Due to the large volume of users that we did not expect, a number of searches timed-out. We planned on ramping up the servers to handle this volume later. But, we are more than happy to move up our upgrade schedule as that means we've done our job. Please be patient and give us a second chance.
Second, as the writer stated, we want to make BitTorrent search relevant and easy for everyone to understand. As such, for those of you that are BitTorrent veterans, you won't find all the details that you are accustom to seeing in other sites. We have struggled whether we should have the ability to have a 'pro' view for those BT veterans and a view for everyone else. We decided to take the risk and move in clean direction.
That said, we welcome all comments, suggestions, and gripes. Please feel free to contact us at: comment (at) speckly [dot] com.
Best,
Ken Y.
