Sendible Schedules Email, SMS, and Social Network Messages
Posted by Adam Pash at 8:00 AM on July 17, 2008
Web site Sendible schedules sending messages to contacts in the future over email, text message, or social networks like Facebook and Myspace. Not only can you send messages to anyone on a schedule, but you can also update your status on sites like Facebook and Twitter on a schedule too (you know, to set up an alibi for that perfect murder). The site also has special tools for setting up reminders for sending messages to yourself, options for recurring messages, and a great calendar tool that lists all your scheduled messages. Aside from message sending, Sendible features a robust contact management you'll probably never use. Sendible is free to use but will cost you an email address to register.

My family tracks birthdays in Google calendar. Armed with that information I can set this thing up to send an SMS to everyone on their bday, which, up until now, was perceived to be more personal than email.

Unfortunately, according to the site, it'll insert advertisements in the messages sent. I wonder whether the recipient of a 'Happy Birthday' message would be happy to to receive ad-laced greetings. I, for one, wouldn't. Pity, it seemed a good idea. :(

azpat, how do you set it up to send an SMS (to others) from Google Cal events?

Mel: Hi Bob! You remembered! Thanks so much for your message, you are so sweet!
Bob: What message?

Who cares about bad karma. The problem is that I used the service to create that perfect alibi while I went to execute my boss. However, my alibi dissolved on police investigation because the message came with an advert - proving that I used a scheduled message... Now I am typing this out from jail.

@Cheshire Cat:
I disagree, sending automated messages to loved ones on their birthday is a bad idea and bad karma. Have it send the message to your phone rather, then forward the message on to them (deleting the ad in the process).

@willvr: That's a better idea. I was thinking it would send two, one to the bday boy or girl, and one to me to let me know what was up. But with ads...then it's better to just let gcal remind me via sms and then send on to the recipient.

@azpat: Sendible does let you send ad-free messages - but you need to purchase credits. I think it's something like $12 for 100 messages - which isn't too bad!

Sendible does let you send ad-free messages if you upgrade to a business account and purchase credits. It's something like $12 for 100 messages...that's pretty reasonable.
