MyMobiler Controls Windows Mobile From Your Desktop
Posted by Lifehacker US Edition at 9:00 AM on July 11, 2008
Windows only: The My Mobiler desktop application controls your Windows Mobile device through its Active Sync connection. We've already covered the GetPDAScreen program, which allows you to see your mobile device remotely and capture the screen, but My Mobiler adds so many more features. What you see in the desktop application is real time and you can interact with your mobile device using the mouse and keyboard as through you were holding the phone in your hand. It has screenshot and video capture capabilities as well as the ability to cut and paste between the phone and desktop environment. The MyMobiler desktop interface even has the ability to emulate the physical keys on the phone which lets you fully interact with the device. My Mobiler is a free download for Windows only. Thanks, joelena and fellow savvy readers!

EveryWAN Remote Support Personal Edition is also a free alternative, that is in my opinion a bit more complete:

THIS IS AMAZING!
I have been using it for a while now and it makes it so easy to talk while i am on the computer, just get a bluetooth headset and when it rings click answer. The typing to text is pretty awesome too.

I've been using this for a couple months now and i absolutely can't live without it anymore. Now when my phone is charging, it's easy to reply to text messages or make calls w/ bluetooth without ever having to touch the phone that's docked on my desk. The drag and drop file management system isn't bad either. This is a must own app for any windows mobile user.

@Saad_Baig: Well, I know that similar programs have been around for years. I can't remember the name, but I recall using a remote app like this for my PDA running WM2003 back in...2003.
That said, I've been missing this type of app on my Dash, and it's a welcome addition. It is absolutely a feature ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center should have off the bat....

We just found this last month at work, it's great when you are trying to support WM devices which are physically in a different part of the country, just remote into the machine and have them attach their phone.

@Coldmiser: I never thought of using this app that way. That's a fantastic idea.
All the recent LH posts for WinMo has renewed my interest in my Dash. I geeked with it when I got it, then kinda left it alone. Now it's back to a new toy again!

Just installed and played with it with my Dash (WM6). Very simple and very useful. A bit slow in response time, though. And mouse clicks will not always work, will have to use the keyboard. Thanks LH for the link.

This could be a godsend. We've got 200-ish Symbol handhelds here, all running WM 5 or 6, that we have to support.
I'm trying to do connect to IP, but it doesn't seem to work right... even so it could be very useful in a dock.

@brainwav: Just tested Connect to IP function and though it is slow, it's still what I have been needing/wanting to support about 100 WinMo phones.
Just go Start->Programs->MyMobler on your cell phone. Select IP connection. It will show your phone's IP address(make sure that your cell phone is not connected to your computer at this time). Then go to your PC, run myMobiler and select Connect IP... and just type in your IP address. Works great though a little slow!

@asurroca: The app that has been around for WM2003 used to be called Remote Display Control. There is actually a link to the old version of it here:
[75.126.171.18]
These days it is part of the Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys and is called ActiveSync Remote Display. You can grab it here:

I do a lot of mobile development, this tool is godsend. It has some problems though, such as locking up the mouse for a second or so when a new device is connected.

@asurroca: The application you're thinking of is called SOTI Pocket Controller.
Its worked with everything I've ever tried it with. PDAs to industrial scanners running anything from CE4.2 to WM6.
Also has a remote command prompt, which I can't do without.

People...if you have a Windows Mobile phone, DOWNLOAD this program!
My reasons why:
+ Don't have to keep flipping back and forth between the computer keyboard and phone keyboard when heavy texting
+ Answer the phone from your computer and use speaker/bluetooth
+ Updating ringtones? You don't have to open up a billion windows. It comes with an explorer with the computer explorer on the left and the phone explorer on the right.
+ 3K hit on resources
+ Can sit your desktop just like an IM client so everything is easily accessible.
Great Program!
One question. Anyone knows how to disable the Windows Mobile Center (for Vista) from popping up when you connect your device? The only way to disable is to not allow USB connections, but then that's the only way MyMobilier will work....any help on that would be great. Thanks

I've been hoping to find a program like this for the Mac for about, oh, 8 years now. I know, I know, you can't have it all, but one can certainly wish ;) Especially now that my Windows Mobile PDA phone's screen has cracked and I don't have a replacement. Eek.

@whochrisporter: Oh man I've been doing a lot of those things since I installed it. I've throw it on my second monitor next to my Digsby client and been using it as a caller ID. For those of you that have read my feature on my office makeover, you know that my phone is on the charging station behind me when I'm working. Rather than turn around on pull it out of the cradle (or at least look over at the caller ID) I now check the caller ID on the screen and answer it with bluetooth or send it to voicemail. So friggin handy.

Installing cabs is a breeze too! Just drag and drop your cab file over to the Mymobiler window and it copies the file to your My Documents folder and runs the cab automatically. It's great when doing heavy customizations and installs.

I can't believe I haven't heard of this before? Makes you wonder why Microsoft hasn't bought this from the developer and included it as part of ActiveSync.
Is it my imagination, or does Pocket PC Magazine prefer non-free software when it designates its annual "Best Software" awards?

Wow, this is pretty impressive! I can see this being very usful at work. I've been using Daswire for easy texting, but it's a memory hog on my XV6800. Very nice for free software.

Now, if my phone had a static IP address, or I had an application on the phone that would email me each time the IP address changed, I could remote control the phone if it was ever lost or stolen. Sweet! Maybe turn on the camera and take pictures, record sounds, see what someone else is doing on it.
Does anyone know of a Pocket PC program that will notify of IP address changes somehow?
Actually, the IP option could turn a phone into a small covert spying device. Oops! I shouldn't be thinking this way. This is wicked cool though!
