Google Calendar Redesigned Facelifts GCal
Posted by Gina Trapani at 9:00 PM on July 3, 2008

Firefox with Stylish or Greasemonkey: The talented designers who redesigned your Gmail are back with that similar look for Google Calendar. The Google Calendar Redesigned user style is now available for download as a public beta, and gives your GCal that slick look you've come to love in your inbox. After the jump, get a few full screenshots of what your GCal looks like wearing the Redesigned style.
The month view:

(My friends' birthdays, by the way, are coming into my Google Calendar via Facebook using fbCal.)
Creating an event:

Editing event details:

To install this user style, you'll need either the Stylish Firefox extension or the Greasemonkey Firefox extension. If you go the Stylish route, check out a few more functional Firefox user styles. If all goes well I'll get this Redesigned style into the Better GCal extension in its next update. Nice work, Globex Designs.

Do these guys also redesign Google Reader? It would be the perfect trifecta!

Not to hijack or anything, but what does "after the jump" mean? I can see the screenshots right there, no jumping required.

Is there any way to get this working when viewing GCal in Prism?

@WordsWithin: Even at 4am on the west coast posting something like this on LH is like parking an ice-cream truck across from a playground and yelling "Free Ice-Cream" over the loudspeaker.
That is the way of all servers, my child, they catch up or they choke.

Now GCal is sexy too!
I hope globex extends this to the entire range of google products. Especially Docs and Reader.

I'm happy to see this released. Big fan of the GMail implementation. Looks like things go funky when using the 'week' view, which is my preferred calendar view.
Also, when I click on an event to get the info-window detail pop-up, there are some [] brackets around the 'delete' button. 'edit event details' button in the same dialog looks sharp, tho.
good work, Globex!

@OX4: Some RSS readers would only show the summary, which would be the bit down to "after the jump", the "jump" = clicking on the link to open the full page in a browser.

@OX4 - if you're reading the RSS feed, the 'jump' splits the 'intro' from the rest of the post.

Echoing what SenorDunda said. If you are using Globex's Gmail Redesigned via Better Gmail, you will continue to have the white screen problems b/c better gmail hasn't been updated yet. If using it via Better Gmail, disable it on the skins tab of better gmail. Then, get the update from userstyles.org using the Stylish extension.

@ryetronics: I'm using GCal with Prism as well - just download the CSS file, rename it to userContent.css and move it into your profile's chrome folder (e.g. ~/.prism/a1bcd2ef/chrome/userContent.css).

@pdfetc: Yes, Gmail changed something, and the Gmail Redisigned skin had to be updated to fix the white screen problem. I got the update last night, so check the Stylish skin update and it should be fixed. They're very good about keeping it updated.

I really like this design but it stopped working for my gmail recently. Wonder if I did something wrong but I have not touched any setting. Anyone else had this happen to them?

Is that last screenshot a section of the original? Or does the skin remove "Add Guests" and "Discussion" options?

Awsome look! just installed it and I'm loving it. OX4 the "jump" usually refers to an advertising break, "banner ad" or the like, but it doesn't seem to be appearing... Damn another missing ad, what will we do.

@sugarbear: It's only a section.
@ArnoldZiffel: Actually, Better Gmail was updated last night, but you have to visit its homepage to download the update. My server is having problems so the update isn't getting served to Firefox automaticallly just yet.
@pdfetc: The update to Better Gmail will fix your issue too.

I use the skin through the Better Gmail addon -- will that be updated to include the new skin? Right now I get an error when trying to look for updates for Better Gmail.

I'm not head over heels in love with it yet, but I don't immediately despise it either. I'll keep it up for a few days and see if I can get used to it. Mostly it's the colors that I think I might have to play around with; for instance, I'm used to seeing the majority of my events appear in purple and instantly stick out from the white background, but with this new style, those events tend to blend into all of the grey and silver that's used for the boxes. So we'll see what happens!

I think the design is too artistic and not functional enough, just like its gmail counterpart skin. I'm into how fast and clearly I can find things, and am into the contrast and ease to the eye. This skin just does not do it for me. I'm into clean, and this one is a bit murky

@ryetronics: It's possible, but it's requires a bit of hacking. Take a look at the page linked below, it goes over how to get extensions working within Prism. I've got Stylish working inside Prism for a userstyle for Google Reader. Make sure you read the comments entirely before going at it.

Great user style... Is there an add-on yet that syncs extensions across multiple computers? Everytime I find a new STYLISH user style I have to remember to install it on my home computer too!
Does anyone have other user styles worth implementing?

I don't know if it's just me, but when I try GMail redesigned, it lags like crazy for me. When I scroll up and down it's like scrolling up and down a clogged myspace profile or something. Anyone else have that problem? I'm using it with stylish.

Very cool redesign. I like the dark, glossy look a lot. There seem to be a few small quirky things here and there, but on the whole it's very impressive!
Thanks for the heads up on this one!

I think the month view looks really nice and I'm using the style on my Gmail. However, I've previewed the style through Stylish and have decided not to install it.
I normally use the Week view and am just getting a dark grey background on every day so the All Day events aren't differentiated from the daily events very well with no vertical line between the days. The colours for each calendar look murky on the dark grey background, certainly not as nice as in the month view against the white background. Also, there isn't a colour that highlights the "Today" column like the nice bright yellow of the month view. I think the Week and Day views should have the white gradient background of the Month view for better legibility.
It's a pity because I think the month view is so much nicer than Google's design.

@Mosaik: I too am just getting a dark grey background through Stylish. I was thinking that maybe it had something to do with the Better GCal Firefox extension also running, but disabling that didn't fix the issue.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
FYI, running Firefox 3.0
