Agile Messenger Brings Tabbed IM
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 10:00 PM on July 2, 2008
Jailbroken iPhones/iPod touches only: Agile Messenger isn't the only multi-client app available for the iPhone, but it makes mobile messaging seriously convenient, and it's pretty slick-looking, to boot. Agile supports the AIM, GoogleTalk, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, and Jabber protocols, can run in the background and update its home screen badge for messages, and places your multiple conversations easily-navigable tabs. What's really intriguing is its copy/paste function—simply select some text with your finger, click to copy it, then paste it into your text field. The app also makes sending pics from your iPhone camera a one-click process. Agile Messenger is a free download (at least while in beta), available through the Installer program on a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch.

I think $45 for a phone app is kind of pricey. Are there any comparable free apps for chat on WinMo or Iphone?

@nEmmY: Try refreshing your Installer sources, then heading to "All Packages" and searching for "Agile."

@LouSir: Where are you seeing that Agile costs $45? It was free, with no warnings/trials, when I grabbed it this morning.

@LouSir: as opposed to $399 (or $199 with a 2 year contract) for a phone?

I've been using this for a while on my Treo, it's a great application and the most stable I've found. It's worth the money, IMHO. Besides, it's cheaper than paying an additional $15 a month for text messaging(I'm with Sprint, where this counts as my Unlimited Internet and not Texting). If I feel like it I may sign into IRC, but if I just want to talk to a couple of people this is the cheapest way to go.
It might be different if any of my friends used text to contact me, we're of the IM and mobile age and enjoy using entire words in communication.
Anyway, this application is the best out of all the rest I've tried, free or not. Also on the plus side, it's updated fairly frequently so if anything becomes wonky it's soon fixed.

@hdskifreak: I think the app you're talking about about is called "Palringo", not "Parlingo". I googled it and happened to find it because someone else misspelled it, too. :)

WinMo has another app called Parlingo which is free, and has the same level of protocol support as Agile. I used Agile before and liked it. I couldn't bring myself to shell out 45 bucks for it tho. Parlingo wants you to sign up to get the app, so if you don't like that, then pay Agile :)
I would have to think the Parlingo boys are thinking of a version for the JesusPhone, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Stay away from any software with the word "Agile" in it. "Agile"-anything in the software world is the equivalent of Amway.

I own a website and I am building a site specifically for cell phones. [www.clubpath.com]
It is a venue and event guide for nightclubs, bars and lounges across Toronto, soon to be national.
I want to add a phone service which allows you to access information on the hottest parties from you phone, and you can recieve guest list confirmation.
Would you use it?
Let me know
Bryan

Thanks for the info Aceboogie. Very on-topic post. I'm sure spamming websites like LifeHacker will really help your website take off. Gimmie a second, just adding clubpath to Nokia's banned IP list...

What 'pay' for an iphone app? Like real money? I think not, next they will be selling them on itunes! lol.
Am I missing the point here I've had beejive on my iphone for months now and it's cost me nothing and lets me chat to all my contacts. Altho I do like the sound of 'copy/paste' so I may just take a look see.
@Aceboogie - Oh yeah I'll pop right along to your site, let me just finish sticking these pins in my eyes first.

Well, you could always point you iphone/ipod at [iphone.mundu.com] - nothing to install, nothing to register, just log into your IM service and start chatting.

We will be releasing the iPhone App WhatTasks: Know WHAT to-do, WHEN to-do it and WHERE !
WhatTasks brings you the easiest way to go through your to-dos: the WHAT/WHEN/WHERE approach. It lets you organize and visualize your tasks by lists, due dates and contexts. And more than that: everything within one unified interface, one click away.
Not just another GTD app, but the Getting Things Done for the rest of us.
So we would like to invite you to check it out and post your comments and suggestions:
We really hope you like it.

I'm not seeing Agile Messenger in my Installer.app.
I have Modmyifone Source, as it comes with community sources (I think, regardless, it is definitely in my phone and definitely updated)
Is anyone else running into this problem?
I'm running 1.1.1.

This UI is horrible. 4 taps to get into a deeply nested menu (and in this UI, nested = floated and overlaid on the previous), and then 4 to get out if I don't want to click something? Ridiculous.

I still can't get this in my Installer.app. I have the MMi source, and I've refreshed several times.
