Play Six Degrees on Wikipedia
Posted by Lifehacker US Edition at 10:00 PM on June 7, 2008
Breathing new life into the 90's game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, researcher Stephen Dolan at Trinity College Dublin created the Six Degree of Wikipedia. Users can key in any combination of items into the script on his site and find how closely or distantly related the two things are. Lifehacker.com, coming in well under six degrees, is a mere 4 clicks away from Kevin Bacon. (Kevin Bacon - Game - Final Fantasy - Screenshot - Lifehacker.com)

Wow, an apple is only 3 clicks away from duct tape!
...and it's god you posted this in the weekend, because it doesn't really help getting things done ;-)

Sadly I have played this too often, just at random times. I have spent hours at work doing this, they should fire me.

I've found you can get to Hitler from any page on Wikipedia in 5 clicks or less.

I actually hacked together a game generator for this game last year (same name even). Check out six degrees of wikipedia to play.

I thought this was the whole purpose of Wikipedia? It happens every single time I visit the site.

yeah, that basically is the point, at least if you have some free time. I should point out that at least in the game rules I'm familiar with, dates and citations are off-limits...it's too easy to just click on "december" and get to anything else. But it is a fun way to waste time and hopefully learn something semi-useful.

I don't remember what I searched for, I think it was from "penis" (am I allowed to say that?) to "microsoft" and it was something like 3 clicks, yet I searched that first article for the word it said was linked and it wasn't there...

Because "arithmetic mean" isn't in the article, just the link is. The actual word linking to that article is average.

I do it from http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulmar (random article), to http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy (the game was on my desk), but 7 link were followed.

Shortest path between 'love' and 'hate'(actually, hatred) takes 2 clicks, by way of Leviticus.
