Google Talk Goes Invisible
Posted by Adam Pash at 5:30 AM on June 6, 2008
If you rock Google Talk in your Firefox sidebar, you'll be happy to know that it's finally integrated the Invisible status a good three months after Gmail's chat. Still no update on the desktop client, though there are still ways to manipulate your idle status.

Psh, I rock G-talk in Pidgin, and it lets me set whatever status I want!

@aaron8301 & AirRaven: I've tested the "invisible" setting in Pidgin, Digsby, and Miranda on Google's Jabber network by monitoring my status from a second Gmail chat account. None of them actually work. If you sign in as invisible, your contacts don't load. If you switch from available to invisible, you're not invisible.
@kirksucks: In Meebo, when you set your status to invisible, your contacts see it as "busy" or "do not disturb".
Therefore, the only way to actually use invisible status on Google's network is to use one of Google's own web clients, as Adam says.

We use Gtalk at work and it is really basic. Google needs to step up to catch up with clients such as Digsby, which I use on my home computer.

I just got tired of the complete lack of progress on the Desktop version, and switched to Digsby.
Does everything GTalk does, but in a prettier package.

If you use digsby, invisible works fine.
