Picasa2Flickr Uploads Picasa Photos Directly to Flickr
Posted by Adam Pash at 7:00 AM on June 3, 2008

Windows only: The free Picasa2Flickr plug-in uploads photos from image-editing application Picasa to photo-sharing web application Flickr at the press of a button. We've mentioned Picasa2Flickr once before, but when Picasa changed its plug-in structure a while back, it broke Picasa2Flickr. This new and improved version actually just sends your selected photos straight to Flickr Uploadr 3.0, Flickr's default tool for uploading photos. There were always good workarounds for perfecting your Picasa to Flickr workflow, but it doesn't get much better than Picasa2Flickr.

hmmmmm... using the tool, there doesn't seem to be any way to downsize the image prior to uploading...

@jordanklein:
Rumor: Apple negotiated a deal with google preventing it from being released.

Don't forget that Windows Live Photo Gallery has more elegant Flickr support built right in. If your first instinct is to avoid Microsoft's Live products, think again. I'm as big a Google fanboy as there is, but Live Photo Gallery is superior to Picasa in just about every way.
Download it; try it. You will not be disappointed.

the original Picasa2Flickr plugin was unacceptably slow.

Windows Live Photo Gallery is definitely a better alternative.

I was disappointed with Windows Live Gallery because I just don't like Windows Live Gallery organization style, and when I tried multiple times to upload photos from it, it wouldn't upload when I picked a set. It would only upload when I didn't choose a set.
So I went back to Picasa and Picasa2flickr. Couldn't be happier.

I don't get it. What's so bad about Picasa Webalbums? Fully integrated already, and free.

@Sion28: I would say size limitations and accessibility. For example, I'm not sure if you can use Picasa web albums to host images for a blog, and if you go with paid accounts, Picasa albums still have size limits VS Flickr's unlimited. I do like the interface for the Picasa web albums though, in that they're easy on the eyes and simple to deal with.

Picassa is cool for a free tool, I installed it for my parents. But for organizing and tagging its pretty poor.
After trying lots of products (including the horribly overpriced lightroom) someone here recommended Windows Live Photo Gallery, and to my amazement it rocks.
I usually avoid MS products, but WLPG is way better than any other windows software when it comes to quickly tagging your pictures. I like its way of breaking up pics into sensible groups on import too.
(PS/ I also got fed up with the 200 limit on Flickr free accounts.. i wasn't uploading any new pics because I knew i'd lose the older ones. Being too cheap to commit to an annual fee, I moved over to 23hq.com and so far i really like it. Much smaller and more simple than flickr, but no 300 pics plus 30 per month = yay for me).

@soul_grind: Microsoft has a free 'photo info' tool that you can install, and you can right click on single or groups of picture for mass tagging. It can also pull exif data out, so you can get the date images were taken.

Smugmug has this as well. Glad Google keeps it open to using other online services.

Picasaweb does give its photos fixed URLs, Chef, which I assume is all that you need to host images for a blog. What I like best about Picasa Web Albums is that it, like Picasa, integrates videos with still pictures. I can upload both snapshots and videos from my camera into Picasa, select which ones to share, and upload them to Picasaweb. The grandparents love looking at pics of the kids, but they especially love the videos. I remember reading that Flickr recently started allowing videos, but can they be uploaded as easily using Picasa2Flickr?

@Chef: Not sure what you mean by size limitations... I upload 8Mp images to my Picasaweb free account. And yeah, there are fixed URLs. Once I run out of room on the one account, I'll just sign up for a free second account, transfer my pictures there, and keep going. I haven't tried Flikr, but I'm pretty happy with Picasaweb.

Now if only Picasa could be bothered to fix the bug with exporting sharpened images...
