Use a Ten Minute Consultation to Get More Freelance Work
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 10:12 PM on May 29, 2008
Looking to grab more work from a client you've done freelance work for? The FreelanceSwitch blog suggests asking them to set aside 10 minutes to discuss what aspects of their business you could contribute to, beyond the scope of what you've already done. Blogger Yuwanda Black says:
I recently snagged more work from one client by finding out that he had a lot of blogging work he needed done. These weren't for any of his clients, but for his own sites. But, he just didn't have time to do them and meet client deadlines as well (a lot of internet entrepreneur have this problem, including yours truly). How have our freelancing readers converted one-shot jobs into long-term clients? Let's hear your advice, or situations to avoid, in the comments.

It sounds simple, but I remind clients that I'm available. E
Every couple months I send a short message letting them know that I enjoyed working with them in the past and I'm available for new projects. Many times, they'll assign something right away or tell me to follow up in a couple weeks. It's surprising how successful a quick e-mail can be.

This is useful even if you're not a freelancer. A lot of business my company gets comes from account managers asking our clients about other parts of their organizations where we could help.

i find when doing work i put in to discussion what else i am doing at the time on anothe project if it at all relates...
for example building a network for one company, talking to the main guy there about how the proxy i put in somewhere else benefitted them... before you know it you have an order.
sitting there with your mouth shut doesnt help anyone

Great article... But I found it very interesting that the author's wordpress blog was suspended for violation of the terms of service.
Good advice? Yes. Good source? Questionable...
