Eliminate Duplicate Task Annoyance in Outlook with Gmail IMAP
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 10:40 PM on May 29, 2008
If you've set up IMAP access to Gmail in Outlook, you may have noticed that using flags in Outlook and stars in Gmail creates a duplicate set of tasks in your sidebar. The How-To Geek shows you how to fix that distraction, using a little creative filtering. The trick can be extended to multiple email accounts, and whether you bring Gmail into your All Mail folder or not. Hit the link for the Geek's helpful run-through.

Good stuff. Also, his trick about using a filter to mark all the spam as 'read' was a HUGE help for me, esp. with my throwaway email address that gets about 100 pieces of spam a day.

Thank you noble sirs... I had put duplicate emails down as a necessary evil, what with having IMAP & POP accounts all syncing via outlook, but always suspected that there was a solution out there. Never found one tho.........

question on imap for lifehacker users...
i have a sizable quantity of emails on gmail so POP is not an option because of space issues. when you download message headers for imap, would that take up a significant amount of memory though? intuition says no, but just want verification.
