vmcNetFlix Streams Watch Now Videos to Your Xbox 360
Posted by Adam Pash at 7:00 AM on May 24, 2008
Windows Vista only: Freeware Vista Media Centre plug-in vmcNetFlix streams Netflix Watch Now videos to Windows Media Centre extenders, including the Xbox 360. You can also manage your queue, browse movies, and do just about anything else you'd want from a Netflix plug-in. Previously mentioned MyNetflix incorporated all of these features, but so far it does not support streaming to extenders. If you've been tempted by the new Netflix streaming box but don't want to throw down cash when you've already got a 360 in your home theatre, vmcNetFlix is a sure winner. It's in beta and still a touch buggy, but it's very promising. Hit the jump to check out a video of vmcNetFlix in action.

I wonder if nullriver.com will get the Connect360 for Mac to be able to do something like this. If they can - I'm switching from Blockbuster to Netflix like yesterday.

I can't see this happening for XBMC either, since the movies are dRM'ed and the XBMC team has refused to try and get other DRM'ed formats to work (for good reason, I think).... -- /p

I got this to work last night and watched two movies on my Xbox 360. Pretty awesome. I did have some problems setting it up though, I think due to the fact that I hadn't installed the Netflix player before I did it. I could play them on the PC, but not the Xbox at first, the Xbox would just say there was a codec error. I followed the directions on the site and uninstalled then reinstalled vmcNetFlix and it started working on the Xbox. Also, you should go into the settings and change the thumbnails to Large, then you get descriptions under the movies.

This is cool but a Hulu plugin for MCE would be so much more cool..

Tried this on Vista/SP1. Installed fine, but crashes Media Center (on the PC) when I try to play Watch Now movies through Media Center on the PC or XBOX 360. Have tried reinstalling 3 times. Same thing. Ever since I UNINSTALLED this plug-in I can NO LONGER watch Watch Now movies on my PC through IE 7. It crashes IE 7 every time. I think it's a bit of a stretch calling this software "Beta". Fair warning.

@txtoast: I'm with you. I'd love to see an XMBC version. I have a 360, but already use XBMC for all of my media needs. It's just so much better.

Anyone else having issues using the NetFlix player on Vista SP1? Ever since I upgraded, I am no longer able to view movies on my PC. Anyone found a solution?

dont hold your breath for an xp version. or a ps3 version since watch it now uses drm'd windows media and doesn't use media center extenders like the 360 does.
@daniel.j.doughty: roku makes nice stuff. buddy of mine has a roku soundbridge, and the support for it by the company (updates, ech support) has been fantastic. the guy who started roku is the guy who started replaytv, which was a tivo competitior.

You know, I don't have a gaming console yet. But I've been eying that advertisement for the Netflix Box by Roku for a week now. Frankly the $100 price tag worried me and I'd never heard of Roku. Having now read the Gizmodo review you linked to, I'm having a hard time not wanting to buy one immediately.
