Google launches a new beta version of Google Reader for the iPhone today. Navigate your folders and subscriptions in a single column, mobile-friendly view with promising load times, even over a slow connection. Visit google.com/reader/i/ to check it out on your handset or in your browser. [via]

Apparently, you can't get an iPhone now in the US or England online stores, they are "sold out" according Apple. This has been taken by some to mean that the new 3G iPhone is on the way.

This is fantastic. I tried it out a few minutes after the announcement, and I browsed through 13 feed items (and starred a couple of those) in less than ten seconds. Compare that with the several minutes it used to take. I with Humperdinck: add sort by oldest and there'll be nothing left to improve.
This is definitely going on my Home Screen :D

It's like finding out "He's dead throughout the whole movie."
Once they add sort by oldest, it will be perfect. I don't like reading news backwards.
Spoilers in my comment.

@BethanyBoo: I also wanted to mention that I use the Bloglines beta - so, the real question is: google reader or bloglines beta?

Hmm, I had only switched to bloglines because of its awesome iPhone interface. Now I'm considering switching back to Google Reader. What do you all think - google reader or bloglines?

Hmmm... not too bad! I wonder when they are going to fix the news reader that they recently updated (screwed up)?

Using the iPhone reader interface on the Nokia N810 - FTW!
That URL does in fact work w/ the N8x0.

works just fine on Nokia's S60 mobile browser (on an E65 phone).
This is really a big and long overdue improvement.

I like it but the large pictures in the articles don't auto-resize anymore. It's impossible to see a large picture. Also, we used to be able to scroll the pages horizontally for larger pictures but they removed that function a while back. I used to just look at the reduced pictures but if one was interesting, I'd click on "view larger image" and scroll to see the whole thing. Now we just miss the right side of big images.

It's fantastic for reading your feeds but, like the all-in-one Google iPhone site, rubbish for reading articles. Being AJAX, the URL doesn't reflect what you're looking at, so when you open a new window, it gets unloaded and the wrong page is loaded when you switch back to the Reader.
Furthermore, it doesn't use the Google Mobilizer on external pages, meaning links take forever to load and the Reader page has almost certainly been pushed out of RAM.
Lovely UI, but it makes me wonder if the application devs have actually tried using it to read articles, not just RSS feeds.

Unfortunately, this beta reader doesn't reformat linked pages, unlike the regular mobile reader link: [google.com] (This link works best on the iPhone and other mobile devices -- it'll look awful on a regular browser.)
The regular mobile link is, IMO, currently much more usable on the iPhone than the beta iPhone-specific link.

Oh god.. This reminded me how i read Verne's 10000 leagues on that tiny screen...
this should've been around.. only a bit more flexible.. Ebooks!

Great! I have been using google readers regular mobile interface for a while now even though it was somewhat frustrating. It is just nice to be able to read my feeds from anywhere.
This looks promising, we'll see tomorrow when I have a bunch of feeds!
