Twitterverse Screensaver Visualizes Your Twitter Activity
Posted by Adam Pash at 7:50 AM on May 12, 2008
An adventurous Flickr user dug up a file in Leopard's example developer documents called Twitterverse, a screensaver that displays your Twitter world in a circle of thumbnailed activity. To use Twitterverse, find the file (a quick Spotlight search for Twitterverse should do the trick), open your Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane, and then simply drag the Twitterverse.qtz file into the preview window of the Screen Saver preference pane. To get it downloading your friends' tweets, click the Options button, enter your username and password, and try it out. I had trouble seeing results (just a blank screen), but if you have more luck, the screensaver is eye-tastic!

Once you log in, you have to wait a while for your twitter icon to show up, then you have to wait for new tweets. It doesn't seem to grab the last 20 tweets like other twitter clients. You can open the .qtz file in quartz composer to test it.

It doesn't work for me either, I just get a blank screen... tried it in Quartz Composer too and it loads the nice visualisation but never seems to fetch any tweets.

If you use Twitter, you really need to get a life.

@wildness Twitter has some great uses outside of what it was built for.
I created a script that sends twitter a message to tell it everytime someone loads a page. [www.geeksparadox.com]
I have posted this script up some places, but after my computer crashed I no longer have it on my computer and cannot seem to find it by google search. I also have removed it from my website since I changed hosts and they were not liking all the curl requests made.
However, with my NEW NEW host, I might put it back on... It would be interesting to see everytime someone views my website on a screen saver.
(I also had it post to foamee to give whoever commented a beer everytime someone commented)
