Same works for an old pair of leggings or other stretchy pants. My kitty Anoushka just LOVES the garage and wants to hang out there, as close to the cat box as possible. It gets cold out there in the winter though so I wanted to make her a nice little bed.
I had a bunch of old clothes that were too ratty for taking to Goodwill, so I tied the legs of a pair of leggings together in a knot, stuffed them with the old threadbare clothes and tied the waistband of the pants together with a strip of old rag. With all the material I stuffed into it, this made a roundish shape that I threw down on the floor. The kitty herself jumped on immediately and pushed and pulled it into the shape of her heart's desire and immediately went to sleep.
I was going to make a seam sewing the two legs together down the middle, but she seems to like it better without. The truth is, I couldn't get her off of it long enough to sew a seam if I'd wanted to. ;-)
Who needs a $40 cat bed from the store? This makeshift bed and a piece of string with a hairclip tied to the end are Kitty's very favorite posessions. The $10 - $30 store-bought cat toys mostly go un-played-with.

I don't have to do any sewing or cutting for my cats to use my sweaters as cat beds. They do, however, prefer that I be wearing the sweater when they settle in.

sew up a bunch of these if you like, but we all know the rules of cat:
thou shall sleep wherever you want
thou shall take over thy human's bed

I can't even begin to list all the weird places one of our cats will sleep. (As I write this, he's taken up temporary residence in a cucumber shipping box we just brought home from Costco. Freak.)
Cool idea on the sweaters however, have to try that before I cart a bunch off to Goodwill.

My cat has been sleeping in the open bow of the Bayliner since she was big enough to jump into it. Twelve years later, she still sleeps there, and we don't have to worry about mice or birds in it!
