Yahoo Debuts Beta "Glue Page" All-In-One Search Results
Posted by Gina Trapani at 11:30 PM on May 9, 2008
Yahoo's testing out a new kind of search page layout: when you search for broad-reaching terms (like Einstein, and happily, Lifehacker), you may arrive on their beta "Glue Page," which groups web page results, images, Wikipedia, news, blogs, and video clips into separate areas on the page. See it for yourself.

Eh, Google has had this for ages now
[searchmash.com]
Contains web, images, blogs, videos, and Wikipedia
(Yes, it's not under the Google brand, but check the first line of the TOS:
"SearchMash is a website operated by Google Inc.")

Yahoo recently sent "panel members" a survey about OneSearch's current usability & future design. The survey asked a very pointed question at the end about the regular Yahoo Search. It asked if we would like it to have OneSearch-like categories.
Question included what we thought the ideal number of categories was, which competitor's search we used, and why and how is it better than Yahoo/OneSearch right now

This looks an awful lot like Amazon's A9 search service... although I just looked back at it (haven't used it since it first came out several years back) and it looks like they've spun it off into a product that they're selling to companies, rather than being a free search engine. Huh.

Conceptually it's the same as Searchmash, but the implementation is much better, IMO, and I'm a Google fanboy. It's almost like looking at a precompiled Google Notebook.

Haven't used Yahoo since Google appeared, but I I will definitely give this some playtime.
But my first thoughts are positive, looks very nice

I'll be be dissenting opinion: when I search, I want to search and I have a good idea of what I'm looking for. Maybe because my mom is a librarian but I can find anything using good search terms and these things are just distractions. Maybe they're useful if you a) don't know anything about a topic and want to see what the web has to say about it or b) are doing a 4th grade research paper and you want to go beyond plagiarizing Wikipedia but otherwise a broad multimedia overview of a topic isn't terribly useful. If I'm doing (adult) research on a topic, I prefer using sites that are tailored to my various needs.

That looks really nice. Google is just always my choice. But this will definately get some airtime with me

@CWW: If your doing (adult) research on a topic, you'll most likely hit specialized searche engines for your chosen topic. So Glue Page isn't for everyone, but it's fine if you just want to search for something and get a general idea

Looks like A9 before the agreement with LiveSearch (and before everybody gave them the finger), but more visually appealing.
Fun, but nothing special.

Ive used searchmash, but to be honest Ive gone back to using standard google, its simpler, quicker loading, and i don't actually want all those other features.
If i want to search images, i use image search, etc.
yahoo is slower anyway, particaully there mail, which does have some good features, but its SO slow!!
