Keep IE7 Removable

Microsoft warns Internet Explorer 6 stragglers users that upgrading to Service Pack 3 with IE7 installed eliminates the ability to uninstall IE7, so wait until after SP3 installs to put it on. (Phew.) [via]

This is bad news for us, since our Web VPN client doens't work with IE7.

As a web developer, I need to have both IE6 and IE7 installed so I can test the sites in both.
But I also would like to see IE6 disappear as it's a real nightmare to web designers.

why does IE6 still exist? how can you explain its existence when something like Firefox 3 is alive and kicking? death to IE6, may IE7 take its place completely

I think the correct solution is not to install it in the first place.

@olikenobi: I'm not sure I understand why we still develop site for ie6. To me, its like saying you are still developing sites for ie5. I think it exists, at least in part, because people still cater to ie6 users. I did for awhile. I quit doing that on my sites a few months ago. It was too much work.

Wow.
Take a step back. Now read these sentences again: "If you must uninstall IE7 after you have upgraded to XPSP3, then you have to first uninstall XPSP3, and then uninstall IE7. After this series of uninstalls, you will be reverted back to a XPSP2, and a stable version of IE6, so feel free to upgrade to XPSP3 again. If you install IE7 after you install XPSP3, then you will be able to uninstall IE7 at any point and be reverted to the newer IE6 version that ships in XPSP3. The restriction on uninstalling only applies to when you install a Windows Service Pack release on top of a standalone IE release."
THAT is funny!
And just to think what the world would be like if IE was NOT so closely tied to the OS (well, ok, not that much different...)

Of course you could be like me and slipstream SP3 into your installation store along with IE7 and WMP 11. We generally need to upgrade IE6 anyway so why not have it automatically there upon a new install.

Anything to force IE6 off a cliff is fine by me. I wish MS would flip a switch causing EI6 to no longer work. Thus, forcing the rest to get with the program and update their computers. (but methinks the last of the IE6 users are IT locked-down business machines)
