Burn an XP Service Pack 3 CD
Posted by Gina Trapani at 12:34 AM on May 9, 2008
Before you head to Aunt Martha's house to do tech support over her dial-up connection, save yourself hours and burn a Service Pack 3 disc before you go. The gHacks blog offers direct links to SP3 burn-ready ISO's and EXE's in several languages. (Here's English.)

Personally I think you should add it to an nlite installation. Mine with SP3 is about 180mb

Also, check out Paul Thurrott's guide to slipstreaming XP with SP3
[www.winsupersite.com]
I haven't read it in depth yet, so I don't know if it is like (or even makes use of) nLite.

This is great, but which is better? Slipstreaming with NLite or this?
Also, does anyone know if there is anything like this for Vista SP1?

@the_Sleepwalker: I think you miss understand. Basically this is just an exe file of the SP3 update. So once you have windows xp on a computer you just have to run the exe. What I am suggesting is creating a single nlite disc with this inside it, so that when you do a reformat and install windows this will be included.

Lucky. I have to do that at home. Well, at least I have 38/38 here at school!

What's the difference between the EXE and ISO versions? I know what the extensions mean, but I don't know how this would effect the install process to a simple home user like me. I have an elderly aunt with a phone modem, plus I would like to have a backup of this for myself.

Well, yes, one can use vLite for Vista. The goal of the slipstream would be to make one installation CD for an entire computer--drivers, video card, previous security updates, additional software (e.g. MS Office) etc. nLite works, but I much prefer xpisobuilder [www.winfuture.de] It simply worked better for me.

Well, yeah, you could just make an Iso from the exe MS released last week. Why is this news? Maybe I'm off my meds or something.

My understanding is that a .iso would be bootable, while a .exe would not.
