I just created an .html file that lives in my program files/mozilla folder that is called homepage.html. The only thing in it is a javascript that does random redirect. I edit the file to put the different homepages I want to be redirected to, and bam. When Mozilla opens up, it loads my homepage (homepage.html) and that page randomly redirects me to one of my potential startup pages.

Works for me. One of the things in particular I use it for is editing my blog. If I don't get automatically sent to my blog, I won't always remember to post something. However, I don't want to go to my blog every time I open firefox. This way I get sent to it once every day or 3, and invariably that means I edit around once a week.

Interesting, but you can have multiple homepages in Firefox simply by putting multiple URLs in the homepage field. Or alternatively, you can just not have a homepage and have the browser restore last-used tabs.

This (with a little tweaking) actually sounds like a great idea for doing a routine list of tasks that you do every (day, month). Use a whatpage with each of your bills and stick it in a bookmark. Then once a month, click bookmark, pay bill, click bookmark, pay bill.. etc etc... all in the same tab. You know you're done when you get the same page back or you can put a reward page at the end.

@Spamwich: Yep, I thought "rotate" meant physically rotating, like in Photoshop... not cycling through a list.

I like having tabs so I just set up a few homepages in firefox by adding "|" between them; however, I will look into this when I want a list of pages as my homepage. Nifty.

I don't profess to grasp the writings of Stephen Hawking but I understood 'rotate' to mean cycle through a list.

It's a neat idea but I like my iGoogle homepage and don't have a reason to switch it up.

if you're feeling adventurous you can actually view someone else's whatpage list since their url string is really simple.
www.whatpage.org/go?id={some number}
it seems to currently go up to the low 600's.

I just "iGoogle" -- multiple RSS feeds and no having to deal with bad suite UIs, unless I want to. RSS feeds also tend to be free of multimedia content (images, audio, whatever) that you may not want co-workers seeing, and it's a good way to glance at the news without visiting multiple 'non-work-related' sites.

I was actually hoping that it would rotate the homepage (as in degrees or radians, not cycling through a series) It would be a fun trick to play on my brother. But after the first few lines I realized it was rotating through a series...oh well

My homepage is set to my personal wiki (I like Monkey GTD) which shows me a dashboard of my projects, next actions, task lists, etc. I run it from my thumb drive and have configured work and home browsers to load it as my home page.

Opera has a speed dialer that I use to allow me to pick 1 of 9 homepages with a single click of their thumbnail. I wish I could do this with about 18-24 webpages (smaller thumbnails). I like the single click swiftness.

FWIW Opera offers a feature called "sessions". Open all the webpages that you need open (all your bill paying sites, investment sites, whatever) and then save the session. Anytime you want to open that series of pages just "open session" and pick the right name.

Another method would be to save all the relevant papges into a single bookmark sub-folder and then tell Opera to open all the bookmarks in this folder. I works very well too.

My older Linux machine will open 50 pages at a time and the newer computer I use at work will open about 80 pages at a time. That's alot of surfing! I typically read a webpage and click the mousewheel on links that look interesting. Then I read those pages clicking on links and opening them in the background as well. It adds up quick.

Sometimes I have more tabs open than I have time to read and I simply save them as a session naming it and dating it for later. The resulting session file is only 50-60K.
